Dr. Schmedtje holds full Active Staff Cardiology privileges at the Carilion Clinic. He admits patients and provides the majority of his inpatient services there. The full spectrum of noninvasive cardiac diagnostic imaging modalities can be interpreted by Dr. Schmedtje at the Carilion Clinic upon request. Dr. Schmedtje is also a Courtesy Consulting Staff Cardiologist at the Lewis-Gale Medical Center, and will be happy to see patients there upon request. If you need hospitalization, there is a Cardiologist who takes call on a 24 x 7 basis in both hospitals. Most of the time, Dr. Schmedtje takes calls on his own patients, but otherwise responsibilities are transferred to another one of the independent Cardiologists with staff privileges at the Carilion Clinic on a rotating basis. You can find who is on call for the RHI at any time by calling the Carilion Clinic operator at 540-981-7000. Should you have the need for an invasive procedure like a coronary stent, a pacemaker, or any other type of cardiac surgical procedure, another heart specialist who teams with Dr. Schmedtje and the RHI will be brought in to work on your case in consultation. Dr. Schmedtje is at the RHI clinic on a full time basis for your outpatient needs, so of course the RHI works with hospital-based specialists to get the right service to you no matter what you need to have done in a hospital. |
