Dr. Schmedtje holds full cardiology privileges at both the LewisGale Medical Center and the Carilion Clinic as a member of their active staffs. He admits patients and provides inpatient services at both locations. If you need hospitalization, generally Dr. Schmedtje will provide the services himself. When he is unavailable, there is a cardiologist who takes call on a 24 x 7 basis for him. This cardiologist can be found by calling 540-981-2105 during business hours, or 540-981-7700 at night. Should you have the need for an invasive procedure like a coronary stent, a pacemaker, or any other type of cardiac surgical procedure, another heart specialist who teams with Dr. Schmedtje and the RHI will be brought in to work on your case in consultation. Dr. Schmedtje is at the RHI clinic on a full time basis for your outpatient needs, so the RHI coordinates its services with those of hospital-based specialists to get the right inpatient services to you when you are hospitalized. |
